Opinion on BelNPP and plans for second nuclear power plant

Nuclear technologies being developed in Belarus are safe — as noted by Aleksandr Shpakovsky, a deputy of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly, in his talk with Alfa Radio

Aleksandr Shpakovsky emphasised that the nuclear technologies being developed in Belarus bear no relation to the Chernobyl disaster.

"These technologies are the most advanced currently available in peaceful nuclear energy. Their safety has been repeatedly confirmed, by relevant organisations as well," he added.

"The Lithuanian government is not a relevant organisation qualified to evaluate the nuclear energy standards of a neighbouring sovereign state. Lithuania itself under ultimatums from European bureaucrats destroyed its Soviet-era nuclear sector — against its own national interests. Despite our calls for co-operation, including potential joint operation of BelNPP, there was no intelligible dialogue with Lithuanian officials," the guest stated, when addressing Lithuania's heightened concerns over the BelNPP.

Of course, the parliamentarian also addressed the matter of construction of Belarus' second nuclear power plant.

"The second NPP is planned for construction in the Mogilev Region. There's a proposal to use it for digital asset generation — sane opinion, considering many nations now hold cryptocurrency reserves. Why don’t we follow the same path?" he stated.

Aleksandr Shpakovsky expressed his opinion regarding ‘green’ energy.

“There's too much mystery around it. The fact is: green energy can't meet the demands of intensive economic development or enable the transition to the sixth technological paradigm. Europe has already understood it,” he noted.
