Opinion: Minsk will not allow itself to be dragged into war

Belarus will not become a pawn in the geopolitical game of the West – as stated by a deputy of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, Sergei Klishevich, while commenting on the statements of President Aleksandr Lukashenko that the republic never planned to attack Europe

West manipulating Belarusian issue

As stated by the expert in his talk with Alfa Radio, the European elites are trying to weaken the efforts of Russia and the United States for a peaceful settlement. “They view Belarus as a possible lever of tension. The political leadership of Ukraine and actually all people in the country are in a state of agony, and the European leaders have also found themselves in the similar situation. They are capable of performing anything, including provocations. In our modern days, no military-political task is complete without information support, attacks and preparation of public opinion.

Belarus is not springboard for aggression

As the expert noted, Minsk will not become a pawn in the geopolitical game of the West, “The more statements we hear about the alleged threat from Belarus, that our country is a springboard for Russia to attack the West (such statements have recently been made by pro-Western Ukrainian politicians), the more actively we must show that this is impossible. Such a situation does not correspond to our military-political documents, let alone the interests of Belarus.”

In addition, everyone knows the President of Belarus as a supporter of peace and mutual respect in relations between states, and the MP stressed, “It is something fantastic to assume that Belarus is preparing for an attack or providing its territory for an attack on Europe.”

Information attacks on Belarus losing their power

Even during the recent election, Western journalists came to Belarus to look at what was happening on the border with Ukraine. “They had specific tasks set by their editorial offices and, probably, special services to find out if there were troops and equipment, and what forces were concentrated there. They got convinced that there was nothing of the kind; although these territories have limited access, they saw the real picture – but some of them showed the truth, and others preferred to hide it,” the MP noted.

In his opinion, Belarus will continue to be blamed until a solution is found on the Ukrainian issue. “Since the resources for information attacks on Russian-Ukrainian relations have depleted, they are now trying to ‘parasitise’ Belarus. However, thanks to the work of our media, all these attempts are reduced to zero,” Mr. Klishevich added.

According to the MP, no reasonable person in the West believes that a military threat can emanate from the territory of Belarus. “As Aleksandr Lukashenko said, the only thing we can ‘attack’ Ukraine with are tractors and combines if our neighbours need help with harvesting, as it has always been traditional. Unfortunately, this is not possible in the current conditions due to the threat to the safety of our combine harvesters. Decades will probably be needed to сlear Ukraine's fields – so that grain can be planted there again,” he stressed.
