Opinion: it is very convenient to work in European Parliament as it bears no responsibility for its actions
It is very convenient for deputies in the European Parliament to work because they are not responsible for what they do – as stated by the Dean of the Journalism Department at the Belarusian State University, political expert Aleksei Belyaev, in his talk with the Belarus 1 TV channel

A 24-year-old blogger, who was previously elected to the European Parliament, has recently shed light on the MEPs’ salaries, informing that he is monthly paid 8,000 Euros, but receives even more: 350 Euros are paid to the man when he ‘comes to Parliament and puts a signature’ in a special register. In addition, various bonuses are also envisaged.
“It is very convenient to work in this Parliament, because it is not responsible for what it does,” Mr. Belyaev said. “National governments and parliaments have been preserved in the European Union. If, for example, a Hungarian feels bad, he will go to complain about Hungarian deputies, a French will complain to the French National Assembly, and a German will address the Bundestag. Meanwhile, the MEPs are responsible for nothing.”
According to the expert, the MEPs’ huge salaries are just the tip of an iceberg. “There is also a service apparatus that revolves around this European Parliament, and additional injections are coming from the general budget, which is being formed at the account of the participating countries. There is also the European Commission, which calls itself the government of Europe, but is actually not elected by anyone. Nobody knows how people are getting employed there. There are also the European Council and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe," Mr. Belyaev stressed.
