Opinion: EU practically lost its identity in international relations

The European Union has actually lost its independence, and now it seeks to draw Türkiye into this funnel of destabilisation – as noted by Vladimir Avatkov, Doctor of Political Science, Head of the Department of the Near and Post-Soviet East of the Institute of Scientific Information for Social Sciences (INION) at the Russian Academy of Sciences

The political scientist believes that the European Union is not satisfied with the increase in Türkiye’s influence in the international arena.

“The European Union has practically lost its identity in international relations. In this regard, attempts to get this identity anew are very ridiculous. But some countries really want to achieve this. Europeans are not satisfied with the increase in Türkiye’s influence in the international arena. They should think about increasing Ankara’s influence within the European Union. But they are unlikely to realise it,” Vladimir Avatkov said.

According to the expert, the European Union, in an effort to regain its independence, is trying to intercept the agenda.

“The Europeans are also trying to drag Türkiye into the funnel of destabilisation, because they don’t like that they are spinning in this funnel, and Ankara is standing by, watching, and even receiving its own dividends in terms of both its interests and the ideological and value factor, its own position in the world. The Europeans are losing while the Turks are gaining more and more. The European Union does not like this, so it is trying to absorb Turkey, but Ankara is still holding out,” Vladimir Avatkov drew attention.

Earlier, orientalist and political scientist Yelena Suponina said that the US is concerned about the desire of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to pursue an independent policy.
