Opinion: EU heads do not even hide their racism towards refugees

Double standards are applied to refugees in the European Union now. For example, there is a loyal attitude towards the millions of Ukrainians who left the country after the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. These people are welcomed in Europe, and money is allocated to them. Some are deported. However, hundreds of refugees trying to come to the European Union through the borders of Poland and the Baltic States are pushed back by the EU security forces to the Belarusian territory: they are not waited for in the EU and have to die at the border. Actually, these people are no worse than other asylum seekers, and political expert Piotr Petrovsky shared his views on the problem.

“The European Union demonstrates the authoritarian features of the dictate with its attitude to refugees. Let me remind you that, 7-10 years ago, the mainstream media and the EU officials not only harshly criticised, but ostracised all those who disagreed with the acceptance of migrants. By now, a special notion has even been introduced in political science for such attacks and political harassment: cancel culture,” Mr. Petrovsky noted.

According to the expert, this trend was observed in 2021 regarding those who had criticised Polish and Lithuanian border guards’ harsh actions against refugees. “The European bureaucrats then recognised – for political reasons – that ‘wrong refugees’ were appearing on the border with Belarus, and their ‘wrongness’ is that the EU believes that there is ‘a dictatorship’ in Belarus,” he added.

Mr. Petrovsky continued, “In 2022, European officials demonstrated open racism – beginning to show segregation towards refugees no longer on the issue of the place of their appearance in the EU, but on their origin. As a result, refugees from Ukraine were declared people of the first class, refugees from other countries were equated to the second class, and those coming to the EU from the Belarusian territory – of the lower class. All means are applied to the latter, including murder.”

The expert added that the EU leaders do not hide their racism. “For them, the European Union is an island of civilisation in the middle of the jungle. Based on their logic, Mowgli live in the jungle, and these people should in no case be allowed on the island. The feeling of superiority has not gone away since the time of Hitler: European bureaucrats simply have a new wrapper for it,” Mr. Petrovsky said.
