Opinion: elections in Belarus embraced with atmosphere of unique civic responsibility

The elections in Belarus are accompanied by a new atmosphere – that is of unique civic responsibility, the First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia, Ivan Melnikov, believes

In his talk with sb.by, Mr. Melnikov noted, “I know that the elections of deputies of all levels are held in the format of Single Voting Day for the first time in Belarus’ modern history. Actually, the matter is not that some new form has been introduced: a new atmosphere is reigning, and it can be called the atmosphere of unique civic responsibility. As I see in the media reports, the republic is covered by such an atmosphere… The people of fraternal Belarus have heard President Aleksandr Lukashenko and opinion leaders, they understand the global context in which the elections are taking place, and demonstrate this understanding. I am sure that every voter will contribute to the stable and progressive development of Belarus, and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State will also be updated. We will be glad to welcome our friends and colleagues following the results of the elections in Belarus. The Union State parliamentarians are now taking part in monitoring the elections of deputies to the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus of the eighth convocation, working as part of the CIS observation mission. Deputies will visit polling stations in Minsk, Brest and Minsk region.”
