Opinion: Belarus boasts good scientific and technical potential to be used by SCO

It is important for the Shanghai Co-operation Organisation that Belarus has a very good scientific and technical potential which can be used – as stated by Vladimir Yevseev, the Head of the CIS Institute Department of Eurasian Integration and SCO Development, in his talk with the ONT TV channel

Belarus' accession to the SCO has given a clear European vector to the organisation, and the expert explained, “Now it is difficult to say that the Shanghai Co-operation Organisation can develop further in this direction, because we do not see possible candidates on that side. Nevertheless, this direction will be extremely useful in the future, and I think it is very important for the Shanghai family.”

Mr. Yevseev noted that Belarus boasts a very good scientific and technical potential that can be used, and it also has some key products that everyone needs. “Belarus has a military potential. It is a very important point, because the SCO has been viewed as a structure located mostly in Asia for a long time, and this is already a reserve for the future – probably not the one that can be implemented now, but the one that can be realised after 2030 or later. In any case, this suggests that the Shanghai Co-operation Organisation is developing in all directions, including towards Europe. Belarus plays a special role in this process,” the expert stated.
