NYT: US advised Ukraine on fighting near Kharkov
It has become known that the intelligence services of Ukraine and the United States intensified co-operation last summer in preparing Kiev for military operations near Kharkov, TASS reports with reference to The New York Times
The publication cites sources in reporting that Ukrainians earlier were reluctant to share any information with Americans, since they were afraid that the United States might see their weakness and cut the volume of military aid. Later, they concluded that openness would convince Washington of the need to increase arms supplies to Kiev.
It is also noted that high-ranking representatives of the US authorities refused to inform on how many details of its ‘counteroffensive plan’ Ukraine revealed to Americans, and also on how much the US advised. However, one of them said that Americans were ‘constantly discussing’ with Kiev how Ukraine could ‘stop Russia's offensive’ in the east of the country.
