Number of those retired from military service in 2022 increased almost 5-fold in Germany
In Germany, the number of reports on dismissal from contract military service increased almost 5-fold last year, and the conflict in Ukraine became one of the reasons, RND reports
According to the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth, there were 951 such reports last year, while their number made just 201 in 2021.
It is reported that, against the background of the Ukrainian conflict and possible escalation, many servicemen explained their decision by saying that they did not expect a military confrontation while concluding their contracts.
The German Armed Forces have 183,000 servicemen, but the authorities plan to increase this figure to 203,000 by 2025.
In Germany, universal military duty was abolished on July 1st, 2011, and there are no military conscripts in the country at present.
