NOC President and Aleksandr Karelin discussed Belarus-Russia sports liaisons
The President of Belarus’ National Olympic Committee, Viktor Lukashenko, and the Senator of the Russian Federation, three-time Olympic champion, multiple world and European champion in Greco-Roman wrestling, Aleksandr Karelin, have held a meeting in Minsk today
As reported by the NOC press service, the sides discussed forms of co-operation between Belarus and Russia in the sports sphere and development of the Olympic movement. In addition, a negative assessment was given to the decisions of many international sports federations to suspend athletes of the two countries from participating in important competitions.
Aleksandr Karelin thanked Viktor Lukashenko for his invitation to the National Forum of Athletes, which was held in Minsk in April. During the current visit to Minsk, the famous athlete has taken part in the Historical Memory: Great Victory Won by Unity international parliamentary conference. He noted the importance of cherishing the memory of the Soviet people’s great feat in our modern times, and – as noted by Mr. Karelin – Belarus is an example for many in this sphere.
