No crime exists that West is not ready to commit, SB columnist believes

In his talk with Alfa Radio, Andrei Mukovozchik, a columnist of Belarus Segodnya Publishing House, shared his view stating that Belarus has different paths with the West

Programme host Polina Konoga recalled that the 29th International Book Fair was held in Minsk, and Andrei Mukovozchik presented his two books there: Roots and Root Eaters. The columnist stressed when commenting on their content, “The origins of information-hybrid wars go back to 1975 when the Helsinki Act was signed. The so-called fake concept of human rights was born then: that is, on the one hand, the rights of people living in the West and, on the other hand, no rights for refugees, for example. Actually, human rights are a subversive instrument of pressure, influence and corruption. In my books, I am trying to show how an information-hybrid war has been prepared and developed since 1975 until modern times, and what means and resources have been used in this process.”

Speaking of the past, Mr. Mukovozchik stressed that, five years ago, Belarus was one of the most democratic countries in the world. Citizens could publicly criticise the authorities, call for their replacement in unconstitutional ways, and distort history. However, everything changed after the 2020 events.

“All non-governmental organisations used money and grants from the West to function. It seemed to us that we could keep it under control. That was the unpreparedness of our Eastern mentality and the inability to adapt to Western guile. We sincerely thought they were giving money to landscape our yards. However, at the same time, the culture of yard chats was developing. We thought they were providing money to support our disabled people, but they were preparing these disabled citizens to pour into the streets [during the 2020 protests] among the first and to use them as shields. We thought this money was given for good purposes. However, the West has no good goals," Mr. Mukovozchik said.

As the Belarus Segodnya observer noted, no crime exists that the West is not ready to commit. “2020 showed that we simply have different paths with them. We were hit suddenly, we were unready for that attack. Even in the spring of 2020, we did not believe that everything would end in an armed mutiny," he added.
