Nizhny Novgorod Region Governor on flagship projects with Belarus

The Nizhny Novgorod Region enjoys an absolutely incredible dynamic of relations with Belarus – as stated by its Governor Gleb Nikitin following today’s meeting with President Aleksandr Lukashenko

According to the Russian governor, such dynamics is due to the fact that the parties have similar economies based on high-tech manufacturing industries. “One of the flagship joint projects is the creation of rolling stock as part of the reform of urban electric transport in Russia. We are the absolute leader among the regions in this reform. With the support of the Government of the Russian Federation, we are acquiring 120 electric buses (we will have the largest fleet of electric buses after Moscow) and 170 trams. Both projects are being implemented with Belarusian partners,” he explained.

Mr. Nikitin stressed that every visit of the Nizhny Novgorod delegation to Belarus is marked by a new stage of co-operation and new projects. For example, the governor's visit in 2022 ended with the signing of a contract to create a new production of trams. “Last year we decided to manufacture electric buses, and 62 such vehicles produced jointly with our Belarusian partners will be finally delivered by December 15th, in the coming days. Most of them have already been delivered," he said.
