New car sales fell to lowest level in 45 years in Japan
The Japan Automobile Dealers Association and the Japan Light Motor Vehicle and Motorcycle Association have released statistics showing that new car sales in the country dropped to the lowest level in 45 years in 2022, Kyodo reports
It is noted that, in Japan, new car sales figures have been declining for four years in a row due to the shortage of semiconductors and pandemic-caused supply chain disruptions.
In 2022, about 2.5m passenger cars and 1.64m mini-vehicles were sold in Japan, and total sales amounted to 4.2m – becoming the lowest figure since 1977.
