Netherlands reported increase in number of migrants due to Ukrainian conflict

Compared to 2021, the number of migrants in the Netherlands increased by 60 percent in 2022 – according to the data published by the Central Statistical Office of the Netherlands, TASS reports

The document notes that 403,000 migrants arrived in the Netherlands last year – 151,000 more than in 2021.

It is underlined that one of the main reasons is the Ukrainian conflict.

“Over 108,000 people have taken advantage of the temporary protection directive,” the office noted.

In accordance with this directive, Ukrainians have the right to live, work and receive medical care in the Netherlands until March next year.

Moreover, about 230,000 migrants arrived in the country from outside the EU – up 35 percent compared to 2021. In this category, more than half are citizens of Syria. Many of this group also came from Afghanistan, Türkiye, Eritrea and Yemen.
