Answering a question regarding the deployment of nuclear weapons, Mr. Gran recalled that each state is capable of making such decisions independently.

“Each state has the freedom in the nuclear sphere to accept or not to accept weapons. It’s not about setting limits,” he explained.

Mr. Gran also mentioned the disagreements between Turkey, Finland and Sweden, expressing hope that they will be resolved ‘by the NATO summit in Madrid’, scheduled for June 28th-30th.

The Assistant Secretary General said that at the moment NATO is not considering the issue of Ukraine’s entry into the alliance. Mr. Gran stressed that it is now unknown how the conflict between the Russian and Ukrainian sides will end.
