National Statistical Committee shared interesting facts about Belarusian researchers
The National Statistical Committee (Belstat) of Belarus has prepared a statistical review for the Day of Belarusian Science, celebrated annually on the last Sunday of January, sb.by reports citing the agency’s Telegram channel
According to Belstat, the priority areas of Belarusian scientific research include the IT sector, machine building, robotics, instrumentation, energy, microelectronics, and bioindustry.
It is noted that every fifth Rouble of the revenue of industrial enterprises is obtained from the sale of innovative products.
The share of shipped innovative products in the total volume of shipped goods by industrial organisations in 2022 stood at 17.7 percent, in 2024 – 22.2 percent.
In 2023, 462 organisations were engaged in scientific research and development, employing 26,700 people, including 17,200 researchers.
Belstat reported that, in 2023, 78.1 percent of Belarusian researchers were over 30 years old, 97.7 percent had higher education. It is also noted that 92.1 percent worked in large and medium-sized organisations engaged in research and development, with 62.8 percent carrying out research in the field of technical sciences. In addition, according to Belstat, 61.3 percent of Belarusian researchers are men.
The distribution of the number of researchers by fields of science was as follows: 62.8 percent – technical sciences, 17 percent – natural sciences, 6.7 percent – socio-economic and social sciences, 5.2 percent – agricultural sciences, 4.7 percent – medical sciences, and 3.6 percent – humanities.
In 2023, there were 2,687 candidates of science and 519 doctors of science among researchers with academic degrees.
