National Academy of Sciences: AI development level is quite high in Belarus, Russia

If we consider future theory, artificial intelligence (AI) will be involved in all spheres of human activity — as noted by Sergei Kruglikov, Director at the United Institute of Informatics Problems under Belarus’ National Academy of Sciences (NAS), on the sidelines of a foresight session held as part of Belarus’ International Foresight in Artificial Intelligence

“We have to kick off, move forward, develop our own algorithms, and form our own language models. This is what we are discussing today at the foresight session held at Belarus’ NAS," he stated.

According to the scientist, a key feature of the event is that while Belarus has been chosen as a host, the forum was organized by Russian partners, members of the artificial intelligence coalition.

“It is not the first time Belarus has been chosen as a venue for international events. We also regularly work within Russian platforms — recently, a CIS Experts Council meeting took place there. The next one is planned for this year as part of the artificial intelligence forum in Belarus,” Sergei Kruglikov noted.

The speaker stated that the level of AI development in Belarus and Russia is quite high and practice-oriented.

“Of course, the forums must be held at various business platforms to move forward and develop together,” he emphasised.

Regarding a potential threat from AI, Sergei Kruglikov is convinced that there is no reason to fear. However, real challenges, risks and threats must be identified to eliminate them through legislation.
