NAS Chairman on President’s inauguration: major event that everyone anticipates with enthusiasm and optimism

Today, March 25th, the inauguration ceremony of the newly elected President of the Republic of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, will take place. Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) of Belarus Vladimir Gusakov shared his expectations of the event with the sb.by reporter.

“My expectations, like those of every guest here, are the most optimistic,” Mr. Gusakov said. “In all my years of work, this is the fourth time I have attended an inauguration ceremony. Today the emotions are completely different. The first were the years of building the country, building the economy, building the vertical of power. A lot was unknown. We had a huge task ahead of us. We had to overcome the consequences of the collapse of the USSR.”

He emphasised that the situation today is completely different, “Despite the sanctions, our sovereign country is steadily developing, we have built up the economy, Belarus is globally recognised. Our President is a world leader, a very wise man. I can hardly compare him with any leaders of other countries. The main thing is that he and all of us together have managed to steer the country between the reefs without crashing.”

“And today everyone is looking forward to the most important event – the inauguration – with great enthusiasm and optimism. I am very happy that we have such a beautiful country. I am glad that Aleksandr Lukashenko has been re-elected. The Academy of Sciences, the scientists are for our President. We should all work together for the good of Belarus, for the country to prosper, especially so that the youth, our children and grandchildren feel confident and have good prospects,” Mr. Gusakov added.
