Musk postponed Twitter deal due to fears of WWIII

It has become known that the world’s wealthiest man, American businessman Elon Musk, postponed his final decision on the purchase of Twitter for a few days in May because he was worried that a world war could begin on Victory Day, TASS reports

According to Business Insider, during the preliminary hearings in the case of Mr. Musk's refusal to purchase the company in a Delaware court, a Twitter representative provided correspondence between the owner of Tesla and Space X with an employee of Morgan Stanley Bank on May 8th.

“Let’s slow down just a few days. [Vladimir] Putin's speech tomorrow is extremely important. It won’t make sense to buy Twitter if we are heading into WWIII,” the publication quotes Mr. Musk's messages from the disclosed correspondence.

Shortly before that, some publications stated that Vladimir Putin could allegedly declare mobilisation in the country or even war in Ukraine on May 9th. The press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Peskov, called those reports nonsense then.

By demonstrating the correspondence, Twitter's lawyers wanted to show that Mr. Musk's attention was focused on a financial side of his future deal, and not on data on the number of fake accounts in a social network. As reported, the businessman decided to buy Twitter in April, but changed his mind in May: he had doubts that the information provided by the company about fake accounts was reliable.

In early July, Mr. Musk's lawyers notified Twitter that he was refusing the deal and, on July 12th, the company appealed to the court.
