MP: Spiritual Revival awards based on inter-confessional harmony principle

The Spiritual Revival awards presented by President Lukashenko once again yesterday, January 8th, are based on the principle of inter-confessional harmony: in 27 years, they have been bestowed on both Orthodox Christians and Catholics. That was a proof that our strength lies in unity, said Deputy of the House of Representatives of Belarus’ National Assembly Viktor Azarenok to sb.by.

According to the MP, the Head of State established the Spiritual Revival awards in 1997 in order to preserve the traditional Christian spirituality and morals, along with the incredibly rich Belarusian culture, and pass them down to future generations.

“We are now saddened to see the fast decline of spiritual values not only in the West, but in our closest neighbour country, Ukraine. Like never before, we now understand that our national heritage has to be preserved and expanded,” Mr. Azarenok said.

He believes it was not by chance that the award ceremony was scheduled to coincide with Christmas, “It’s a holiday that symbolises the triumph of spiritual revival. We venerate the Orthodox Church which has been contributing enormously for centuries to strengthening the unity of the Belarusian people, preserving peace and civic harmony in our land. But we have never separated people into ‘in’ and ‘out’ groups when it comes to their religion, ethnicity, or convictions. We have always been proponents of friendship and brotherhood.”

Every year, the Head of State bestows this high award on people from all professions: priests, charity representatives, teachers, healthcare workers, artists, and everyone who shows their true patriotism and inspires us with their talents and achievements.

“I’m happy that despite the circumstances, the interest Belarusians show for their culture, traditions, and history is growing year to year. We are starting to realise that our values are our national cultural code,” Mr. Azarenok believes. “We understand that and are trying to convey that understanding to our children, because it’s obvious that patriotism and spirituality are inseparable concepts. All good things in our lives start with love: love for your family, friends, for the place of your birth, and for your Motherland. That’s what inspires us to serve noble goals. There are things Belarusians should be proud of, and we are.”
