MP: relations between Belarus, India developing quite dynamically and showing good results
India is a very serious and major partner for Belarus — as stated by Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs of the House of Representatives Sergei Rachkov during a meeting with the Indian delegation participating in the 2nd International Congress of Patriotic Forces for Peace and Development
The parliamentarian pointed out that the relations between the two nations have a long and positive history, “Our countries established ties during the Soviet times. Today, thanks to Belarus’ President Aleksandr Lukashenko and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, these relations are gaining new momentum. As you know, the leaders of Belarus and India met on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in China. This meeting further confirmed that our states’ relations are progressing dynamically and yielding strong results. For example, bilateral trade has increased by 73 percent over the past nine months this year, and Belarusian exports have grown 2.7 times.”
Mr. Rachkov highlighted that the main focus of the relationship between the two countries lies in the economy, investment co-operation and issues of mutual interest to both Belarus and India.
“It is important to recognise that strong economic ties are grounded in the political relations between our two countries. India supported Belarus’ entry into the Shanghai Co-operation Organisation. At present, we are liaising with India within BRICS as a partner country. We are fostering very close co-operation across various international platforms. India supports Belarus, and in return, Belarus assists India on issues that are significant and relevant to the Indian side,” the deputy emphasised.
On a positive note, Mr. Rachkov also pointed out the growing inter-parliamentary relations, such as exchanges of visits and high-level interactions between the speakers of the parliaments.
“Belarusian parliamentarians are actively liaising with the Indian delegation within the framework of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), indicating very promising prospects and opportunities. Most importantly, this underscores an even greater potential that should be used both in bilateral relations and at the parliamentary level,” he explained.
Mr. Rachkov emphasised that this topic was a key focus during the meeting with members of the Indian delegation attending the 2nd International Congress of Patriotic Forces for Peace and Development.
When asked if the Indian delegation’s visit to Belarus indicates an interest in the country, the parliamentarian responded that current concerns revolve around the global situation, particularly regarding security.
“The recent conference held in Minsk focused specifically on Eurasian security issues. In this context, it is significant that Indian parliamentarians are joining Belarusians and representatives from other countries in discussions about the structure of Eurasian security. Thus, the visit of the Indian delegation and their participation in the congress demonstrate that India is interested not only in strengthening bilateral relations but also in fostering multilateral ties with Belarus. India is prepared to engage in dialogue on complex global challenges and issues affecting all countries in our region,” the MP stated.
