MP on Khatyn and all other villages destroyed by Nazis: Belarusians will never forget crimes against civilians

Belarusians will never forget the monstrous crimes against civilians during the Great Patriotic War – as stated by a deputy of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly, Viktor Azarenok, on the eve of Day of Remembrance of Khatyn Tragedy Victims, sb.by reports

As noted by Mr. Azarenok, the map of Belarus features thousands of settlements destroyed by the Nazis during the Great Patriotic War, civilians were targeted for total destruction there. On March 22nd, Day of Remembrance of Khatyn Tragedy Victims, commemorative events will be held countrywide, and some of them have already started today.

“This date is one of the most mournful and tragic pages of memory of the Great Patriotic War, which claimed the lives of about 27 million Soviet people. Belarus suffered the most of all the Soviet republics. The Nazis sought to exterminate our population, and they did not even hide their intentions. As a result of their actions, every third Belarusian died. The troops of Nazi Germany destroyed about 9.2 thousand Belarusian settlements during punitive operations, more than half of them – with residents. Can that be forgotten? Never! The tragedy of Khatyn and thousands of other villages will forever remain in the memory of not only Belarusians, but also all those who honour universal human values and oppose the war,” the MP stated.

Mr. Azarenok stressed that Belarus’ youngsters cherish the memory of the war years, “We remember not only the heroes who died in the battles for freedom and independence of their native country, not only the soldiers who were killed in bloody fights, but also every civilian murdered, every village and house destroyed. We remember in order not to forever remind the world of what was done, but so that everyone on our planet knows that such atrocities must never repeat.”
