MP on Belarus’ role in modern international relations: we’re in the subject of world politics

How is the policy of Belarus viewed amid all political changes? How is our country’s position assessed in the world? Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs of the House of Representatives at Belarus’ National Assembly, diplomat Sergei Rachkov, discussed these issues in his talk with the SB TV YouTube channel.

According to the expert, President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko answered many questions about Belarus’ foreign policy actions in an interview with US blogger Mario Nawfal.

“There was really very deep analysis and reflection. Practically all of the world's most pressing problems were touched upon. This is both the outline and the content of our foreign policy today,” the deputy emphasised.

He also added, “Aleksandr Lukashenko’s appeal to Vladimir Putin, Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyy that the Minsk platform is open for negotiations and for resolving controversial issues is a very serious message. It is a signal that indicates that we are in the subject of world politics.”

The expert believes that economic diplomacy is at the centre of Belarus’ foreign policy.

“The President always emphasises that the economy is at the heart of everything. We have successfully completed 2024 in terms of GDP growth, exports of goods and services. But competitors are not sleeping, they are not resting either – they are working very actively. And if Westerners have left the Russian market, others are entering: Asians and Africans. Therefore, competition is very high. And here the President urges us not to be complacent: to promote our exports and to earn money on foreign markets. This is necessary for the prosperity and incomes of Belarusians to grow, for us to be able to spend more money on social programmes, on support for the needy, education, healthcare. So that we can work peacefully, but conduct a peace-loving foreign policy,” he summarised.
