MP: Belarus established close contacts with Cuba
Relations between Belarus and Cuba have always been of a special nature – as stated by a deputy of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly, Sergei Klishevich, during a videoconference meeting with members of the working groups on co-operation between the parliaments of the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Cuba

As the parliamentarian noted, these ties were established by the leaders of the two states: Aleksandr Lukashenko and Fidel Castro, and the traditions of co-operation continue to strengthen.
“Cuba occupies a special place among the countries with which Belarus has close contacts. A special commission uniting both parliaments is operational under the leadership of the speakers. The working group deals with issues arising in the legislative and political spheres, and our today's discussions are aimed at implementing these tasks," Mr. Klishevich stressed.
According to the MP, special attention was paid to the issues of trade and economic co-operation at the meeting. “There are no problems in the political sphere: Cuba consistently supports Belarus on international platforms. However, the economic challenges associated with sanctions against both countries require the search for new effective and mutually beneficial forms of interaction,” he noted.
Mr. Klishevich added, “I am sure that the event will be another step towards strengthening inter-parliamentary interaction and, in general, will contribute to the development of co-operation between our states.”
Earlier, the Belarusian side held talks with the parliamentarians of Nicaragua in a similar format, demonstrating its desire to expand international parliamentary co-operation.
