More than 2,000 troops to be stationed at NATO base in Bulgaria
A military camp to house a NATO multinational battlegroup to be built in Bulgaria will accommodate more than 2,000 personnel, TASS reports
“The Defence Ministry envisages the expansion of the barracks area in Kabile to brigade level, over 2,000 military personnel, but it will be fully under Bulgarian administration, not as a Bulgarian-US joint base at the Novo Selo training area. The site was chosen because of its proximity to the airport and seaport, the Novo Selo training area, and because of the developed railway and road infrastructure,” reads the official website of the Yambol city administration, following a meeting between Mayor Valentin Revanski and Bulgaria’s Chief of Defence, Admiral Emil Eftimov.
It is expected that the buildings in the Kabile area will be renovated to house the military, with new electrical substations, sewage systems and other infrastructural facilities being built. The money for this will be allocated from the Bulgarian and NATO budgets.
