More housing for Minskers

This year, 600,000 square metres of housing will be built in the capital – as informed by the Chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee, Vladimir Kukharev, in an interview to the ONT TV channel

“The task will be fulfilled,” he stressed, adding that, a few years ago, more than 1m square metres of housing were built annually in Minsk. However, less territory is now available and there should be no overpopulation of the city. “Naturally, we are reducing accommodation volumes and, in almost five years, they have almost halved. At the same time, the 600,000 square metres planned for 2021 will definitely be constructed,” Mr. Kukharev said.

Moreover, according to the official, Minsk’s satellite cities are actively being developed. Smolievichi is now in focus and 19 houses are planned to be built there. Interestingly, Minsk residents support construction of housing in Smolevichi: three houses for 300 apartments are under construction there, though 1,500 applications have been submitted.
