Medical university and church strengthen contacts

The Grodno State Medical University and the Grodno Diocese of the Belarusian Orthodox Church have signed a co-operative agreement

As the diocese has reported, the document will be in force for five years. In addition, a programme of joint events for the 2021/2022 academic year has been adopted. The ceremony was headed by the University Rector, Yelena Krotkova, and Archbishop Antony of Grodno and Volkovysk.

After a tour of the main building of the Grodno State Medical University, the sides discussed practical implementation of the signed documents. “Archbishop Antony stressed the importance of co-operation in the context of formation of a future doctor’s character and professional qualities. According to His Eminence, among the desirable areas of co-operation are issues of bioethics and morality, patriotic education, study of the traditions of the Belarusian people, and local history. Rector Yelena Krotkova, in turn, noted the keen interest of students in meetings with representatives of the church who help students find answers to many challenges of our time, while determining reliable ethical guidelines necessary for future doctors,” the diocese reported.
