Media: UK Ministry of Defence frozen new capital spending until late March

The British Defence Ministry has decided to freeze new capital spending until the end of March – corresponding to the end of the 2023/2024 financial year – due to rising inflation and increased costs for military personnel salaries, starting last autumn, TASS reports

According to The Daily Telegraph, pay rise a few months ago cost approximately £800m (over $1bn). It is noted that wages actually had to be financed from the Defence Ministry’s capital budget.

This decision calls into question the approval of several research projects in the field of AI and cyber technology in the coming weeks. Moreover, such a measure could affect the participation of the British representatives in the Convergence international project – a meeting of allied countries to discuss innovations – scheduled for this spring in California.
