Media: UAE to launch region’s most powerful photography satellite into space

“About 14 years ago, MBRSC launched its first Earth observation satellite, one of the key missions of which is environmental monitoring,” the newspaper quoted the Centre’s CEO as saying. “Today, we are developing MBZ-Sat, which will be the region’s most advanced high-precision, high-resolution imaging satellite.” According to Al Marri, the satellite will track changes in the environment, assess water quality and help develop agriculture.

The satellite, named after UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has been reportedly under development at MBRSC in Dubai for many years. The 800kg MBZ-Sat will be launched into orbit as part of the SpaceX mission using the Falcon 9 launch vehicle.

MBRSC partnered with five local companies to build the satellite. According to the publication, 90 percent of the mechanical and 50 percent of the electrical components of the satellite are produced in the United Arab Emirates. It is noted that the device will be three times more powerful than the KhalifaSat satellite, which was launched in 2018.
