Media: Portuguese voters doubt snap elections to bring political stability
Portuguese voters are becoming increasingly disillusioned with the country’s political elite as another snap election approaches, but there is no sign that it will bring stability either, Reuters reports
Portugal’s centre-right Democratic Alliance collapsed on March 11th, after the country’s PM Luis Montenegro lost a vote of confidence. This came just eleven months after he was sworn in.
According to the news agency, all parties in Portugal agree that the country’s President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa had no choice but to call new parliamentary election, the third in recent years. The president has signalled the ballot could be held in mid-May.
“Opinion polls show the centre-left Socialists with a very slim lead, but mostly neck-and-neck with Montenegro’s Democratic Alliance (AD) at around 30 percent, showing little change from last year's election,” the article reads.
