Media: NATO may increase defence spending to 3% of GDP

In 2025, as Bloomberg informed, the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) may increase the defence spending threshold for member countries from 2 to 3 percent of GDP, TASS reports

Bloomberg news agency claimed, citing sources, that the new ‘concrete targets for how many more tanks, planes and other weapon systems member countries need to produce’ will be presented at the alliance summit in June. According to sources, that ‘may require raising the alliance’s defence spending goal to as much as 3 percent of gross domestic product’.

According to the new agency, NATO has already started preparing their members for the defence spending hike. Secretary General Mark Rutte has said repeatedly this month that 2 percent ‘is simply not enough’.
