Many Europeans want the leader like Belarus has, expert believes

Citizens of the West, unlike their governments, treat Belarus and its leadership positively, and many Europeans want their states to have a leader like Belarus has – as stated by the Chairman of the Youth Parliament at Belarus’ National Assembly, Yegor Makarevich, in his talk with Alfa Radio

Mr. Makarevich noted, “It is always necessary to differentiate the politics of Europe and the United States from that of their citizens. People do not treat Belarus and our leadership badly: on the contrary, many European colleagues, including from the post-Soviet countries, really want them to have a leader like ours. They declare this openly. However, modern politics [in the West] is largely puppet, so somewhere there, in Poland for example, they think not of the interests of ordinary people but of their own – and also of the orders they are receiving from abroad. Therefore, when young people meet at some venues, including informal ones, they [say] that they normally treat our country and its politics.”

Mr. Makarevich added that the war that Western politicians tried to unleash on the territory of Belarus in 2020 and are continuing to do it now will primarily affect young people. With this in view, it is important to reach out to young people in Europe and the United States so that they contribute to preventing the development of such an outcome.

“The war that they are trying to unleash here [in Belarus] is a crucible that young people will be first to get into. If they fail to strongly oppose all these attempts today, then nothing will happen [Western politicians will not stop trying to drag Belarus into the war]. Therefore, public diplomacy enables young people – who will ever come to leadership positions – to treat our country normally. We have not finished this dialogue, and we have no plans to do so. The most important thing is that they hear us. This maybe not happening from the point of view of global platforms, but everything is fine in terms of personal communication," the Chairman of the Youth Parliament concluded.
