Together with like-minded states, Belarus will fight back against the western sanctions – as stated by Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei in an interview with China Central Television, BelTA reports

Belarus’ Foreign Minister stressed that the western countries had stopped observing even minimal decency by imposing sanctions against a particular state. They change the laws only in order to punish this or that country.

"They declare that they support Belarus’ sovereignty and independence but, actually, all these sanctions are aimed at total destruction of the sovereignty and independence of Belarus, at undermining the country’s statehood,” Mr. Makei said.

"Naturally, we will develop adequate responses to the restrictive measures that have been taken against Belarus,” the Foreign Minister added. “We will create a circle of like-minded states, we will raise these issues on all international platforms – since these measures are absolutely illegal and are not authorised by the UN Charter or other international agreements. Therefore, jointly with like-minded states, we will try to fight back against these sanctions."

According to Mr. Makei, the consequences of sanctions pressure on the world economy and the economies of particular countries are already visible: fuel and energy resources have risen in price.

"We see that a range of countries have declared the threat of famine due to a shortage of potash fertilisers. Meanwhile, Belarus supplied almost a fifth of potash fertilisers to the world market. The pandemic and a fight against climate warming have been put aside – though these are real threats and large-scale challenges that all of humanity faces. Therefore, I think that these hasty measures – introduced by the western states – will have a very strong impact on comprehensive development of our planet in the future: in the economic, political, environmental and all other spheres," Mr. Makei concluded.
