Lukashevich: Belarus provides platform for peace talks while Western countries provide weapons to Ukraine
This opinion was expressed by Belarusian Ambassador to Brazil Sergei Lukashevich in an interview with the daily Brazilian newspaper Correio Braziliense. According to the diplomat, the provision of weapons to Kiev underlines the lack of interest in the West in cessation of hostilities.
“There is a lot of information about the events in Ukraine, our neighbouring country. There is a lot of unverified and frankly false information about the participation of the Belarusian military there. We stated this earlier, and on April 13th, 2022, the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) confirmed in its official statement that Belarus is not participating in the special operation in Ukraine,” Sergei Lukashevich drew attention.
The Ambassador stressed that Belarus, as a country that has borders with both Ukraine and Russia, has a significant burden, particularly, in providing assistance to refugees and physical protection of the borders.
“Belarus provides a platform for peace talks while Western countries provide weapons. In our opinion, the provision of weapons only underlines the lack of interest in cessation of hostilities,” resumed Mr. Lukashevich.
