Lukashenko: we withstood and therefore we live in a peaceful country, but it’s too early to relax

Belarus survived the difficult period of 2020, having managed to maintain peace and order in the state, but it is too early to relax – as stated by the President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, at a ceremony of presenting state awards to those who were on the cutting edge in very difficult times for the country, BelTA reports

For exemplary performance of official duties, significant merits in military service and high professionalism, the Head of State awarded three dozen military men and representatives of law enforcement agencies: the Defence Ministry, the Interior Ministry, the State Border Committee, the State Security Committee, and the President’s Security Service. High awards were also received by a number of civilians who showed determination and courage in the most difficult conditions while ensuring security and restoring order in the country in August and autumn 2020. However, the list of awardees is much longer. There are about a hundred people in the decree signed by the President. High well-deserved awards will be presented to all of them in the very near future, on behalf of the President, by the Prime Minister and State Secretary of the Security Council.

“Now we have already realised what would have happened to us. Back then, we did the almost impossible. They were training on us. It was a training, it was a prelude to the events that are taking place now in the world and, particularly, in Ukraine. We withstood, so today we live in a peaceful country,” the Belarusian leader stressed.

At the same time, the President drew attention to the fact that it is still too early to relax, everything is just beginning, “There was a rehearsal, training, as I said, a prelude to the main events. Everything is just beginning. We must not relax.”

Aleksandr Lukashenko drew attention to the difficult situation in the region and the world, including around Belarus. “Poland and the Baltic States have turned into training grounds for regular exercises of NATO troops. Previously neutral Sweden and Finland (they are itching for something) seek to urgently join the North Atlantic Alliance, consider that they have actually joined it,” he said.

At the same time, the President noted that the massive hybrid aggression against the Belarusian state does not stop. “It comes from the side of the so-called fugitives, not even the opposition, but those rebels who quickly fled outside our country. Actually, these people are one of the cornerstones of Washington and Brussels’ policy in our direction and not only. Our duty to the current and future generations is to draw conclusions from this and save the country by all possible means,” the Belarusian leader said. “We’ll preserve it no matter what it costs us. This is not only my, but also your task. People really believe in us and know that we will always come to the rescue, we will ensure a calm and peaceful life for our people, we will protect the country from external and internal threats.”

Addressing the participants of the ceremony, the President thanked them for their impeccable service and reliability, wishing them new achievements in service and at work, strong health to them and their relatives and friends.
