Lukashenko: we will soon struggle to have extra Russian Rouble or Yuan in pocket
During his meeting with the leadership and operational staff of state security agencies, the President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, noted the currencies of countries such as Russia or China – where a significant share of Belarusian products is being sold – will enjoy the greatest demand, BelTA reports
The Head of State believes there is no need for citizens to ‘run around the corner’ to somehow exchange Roubles for Dollars. “Ok, you have exchanged and now have enough of it. This Dollar will start to slowly go down as no one needs it – especially in connection with the sanctions that have been imposed against us."
"Probably, we will soon struggle to have an extra Russian Rouble or a Yuan in our pocket since we will mainly trade with these countries," the Belarusian leader added.
As reported, on March 11th, the presidents of Belarus and Russia – Aleksandr Lukashenko and Vladimir Putin – held talks in Moscow. Among the topics under discussion were bilateral relations and building co-operation in connection with a harsh pressure of the West and the United States and a hybrid war unleashed against Russia and Belarus. Conceptually, the heads of state agreed on joint steps for mutual support in relation to the sanctions pressure, including on energy prices.
As a follow-up to the presidents' agreements, the government delegations of Belarus and Russia held talks in Moscow on Monday, March 14th. Among the decisions they made was to get rid of the Dollar in payments for energy resources.
"We have decided not to use the Dollar in energy related settlements,” Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko told reporters after his talks with the Russian PM. "This is an absolutely natural decision. Due to certain circumstances, there is no point in being tied to a certain third currency anymore.”
Mr. Golovchenko noted that the sides had long been talking about moving away from the Dollar in payments for energy resources. "Finally, as they say, there would be no fortune, but misfortune helped,” he said.
According to the Belarusian Prime Minister, payments to Russia for energy resources will be made in Russian Roubles.
