Lukashenko: we want Belarus to be peaceful, but we need to get prepared for any scenario
Belarus remains a peaceful country, but it should get ready for any development of events – as noted by President Aleksandr Lukashenko during his today’s meeting with veterans at the Mound of Glory memorial complex, BelTA reports
"Believe me, I am not whipping up tension. We do not need this. We want our country to be peaceful, but – as people say – we should not miss anything, as it happened in June 1941 (you remember that better than me). We must be ready for any scenario. [We should not] exhort, lull or declare that everything is quiet and calm, that nothing will happen. It will be great if so [and nothing happens]. Meanwhile, we must get prepared for the worst," Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed.
The President extended warm words of gratitude to the veterans for their feat and, through them, to all participants in the war. It was in their name that the Mound of Glory was erected.
"Many thanks from all of us to those who did not live to see this moment. We must preserve our Belarus in memory of them," the Belarusian leader addressed the veterans. “Many of us, especially young people, feel shortage of something – i.e. potatoes or something else. But you, including us, understand that this is of minor significance compared to what you and those who already died had to go through in your youth. Therefore, this is the simplest point: we will have potato, and it is already available. Good health to you, live long! You are not just a memory. You are the future of our country. Thank you! You are backed by our military heroes, who recently defended the country by suppressing the rebellion, and who will not let anyone take our Belarus.”
At the foot of the Mound of Glory, the Head of State also talked with the military and cadets. "We do not want to fight even more than anyone else. But...,” Aleksandr Lukashenko began and was continued by those standing near him, “The beloved one is never given away to anyone!” “That’s true!” the President agreed.
