Lukashenko: we’ve shown electoral sovereignty in action
The Belarusian people have created a sovereign state, and we have something to be proud of, President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko said at today’s inauguration ceremony
The Head of State noted that some 30 years ago the world knew almost nothing about Belarus, “Who cared about us? Probably nobody. And today? Today, our country is heard all over the world, today we matter! That is why we are in the spotlight. And not everyone likes our independence, especially our honest and open position in the international arena. We have shown electoral sovereignty in action. Over the years, we have managed to set a standard for conducting election that can serve as an international benchmark. We have achieved our victories together!”
Aleksandr Lukashenko thanked all voters for the votes given to him at the election, “For your faith in the principles and values that underpin the achievements of sovereign Belarus, our achievements. I am glad to see the support of young people and their participation in political life. It is valuable. Children have not seen the devastation of the first years of the country’s formation. It is objectively difficult for them to judge the correctness of the path we chose then. But they are ready to continue our path. We have raised worthy successors. We have someone to pass the baton to.”
The President expressed words of gratitude to his proxies, “You have not only represented the interests and programme of the incumbent President, but you have also resolved issues of concern promptly.”
The Head of State also thanked local authorities, electoral commissions and law enforcement agencies, “We conducted the election with dignity. Behind this success is your enormous work. The work of more than a day and more than a month. Teachers and doctors are at the forefront of the election campaign, as always, most of them are our beloved women. Thank you very much!”
Aleksandr Lukashenko expressed his special gratitude to the organisers and participants of numerous cultural and sporting events, saying that they had created a festive atmosphere and had united us even more.
The mass media have demonstrated their high level of professionalism, the President emphasised, “A serious agenda has been formed in the national media field without hype, without speculation, without all kinds of shows and scandals. The state media are the main source of information for Belarusians.”
The Head of State also addressed his rivals, the candidates who nominated themselves for the presidency, “Thanks to you, we have shown a model of real pure competition, without internal intrigues and manipulations by external forces.”
