Lukashenko was asked if he could sign hundred decrees in a day, like Trump
If one president signs decrees and another one cancels them, it indicates instability and lack of continuity, President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko noted during his today’s conversation with MAZ and BELAVTOMAZ employees
New US President Donald Trump signed almost 200 decrees, memoranda and orders immediately after his inauguration, American media reported. He was the first to sign several decrees on appointments to his administration. The documents included appointments of interim heads of various government agencies. The 47th US President signed nine more decrees during the inaugural parade, which took place at the Capital One Arena in Washington. With his first decree, he cancelled 78 ‘harmful’ executive orders and memoranda of the previous US leader Joe Biden.
Answering the question whether the President would be able to sign so many documents the day after his election, Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that he already signs them without waiting for the election, “Life goes on, it cannot be stopped. Therefore, the first decree was dedicated to improvement efforts [Decree No. 1 of January 3rd, 2025, to declare 2025 the Year of Improvement], decrees on personnel appointments... Everything comes from life.”
At the same time, commenting on the cancellation of the decrees of the previous US leader, the Head of State shared his opinion, “If today one president signs decrees and another one cancels them, is that normal? This characterises the country. Not just him, but the country. It means there is serious instability in the country, there is no continuity.”
In this regard, the Belarusian leader emphasised the responsibility for the decisions made precisely from the point of view of continuity, “There should be continuity, not just ‘I’ll come and change everything’. Well, cancel everything if you want…”
The President also mentioned personnel decisions in 2024 and early 2025, as well as new ministers, including Industry Minister Aleksandr Yefimov, who was in charge of industrial enterprises. It is to such a young and promising generation that all spheres in the state are to be handed over, “We have to bring normal, strong people after us so that this policy that you support will continue.”
Returning to American politics, Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that God did save Donald Trump during the assassination attempt, but not in order to engage in mindless politics, “If you’re a peacemaker, work to keep wars out, you can do that, because Americans have always started wars or pushed for wars... If you want to make the American people happy, don’t forget that you can’t make one nation happy...”
