Lukashenko voiced formula representatives of all faiths are guided by in Belarus
‘Respect — understanding — consent’ is the general formula that the state and representatives of all faiths have developed in Belarus – as noted by President Aleksandr Lukashenko during his today’s meeting with representatives of religious denominations
According to the Head of State, a unique ethno-confessional model has developed in the country, and it may be an example for many. “Together, the authorities and representatives of all denominations, have developed a common formula: ‘respect — understanding — consent’. Our people are used to living this way, and they cannot even imagine life any other way – though the latter happens. With pain in our hearts, we see what the situation in Ukraine has resulted in, for example,” he said.
The President reminded that there were attempts to shake Belarusians up on religious issues back in 2020, and – it was no coincidence – one of the strongest information attacks was aimed at the clergy.
Addressing the meeting participants, Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed that it is difficult to overestimate the fruits of their service in strengthening traditional values. “You are erecting an invisible, but no less reliable spiritual shield between good and evil. In our future joint work, we will rely on family and spiritual values, and raise children together. Love for the Motherland begins for a child with love for his family, his home, his city, and the church. Otherwise, we will turn into the ones who do not remember their kinship,” he said.
The President emphasised that there should be no closed topics at the meeting. According to him, the state has always taken and will continue to take a constructive position on issues related to the activities of religious organisations.
“Meanwhile, the spiritual life is a very subtle sphere. Therefore, if you see that some topic requires additional attention or certain changes, I am ready to listen to your suggestions. After all, we are all working for the sake of peace and our spiritual unity," the Belarusian leader stressed.
