Lukashenko visiting Chechersk – with focus on restoration of Chernobyl-affected areas

The Head of State is visiting the Gomel Region’s Chechersk District today – to be informed on its socio-economic development, the progress of spring fieldwork, the measures taken to overcome the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster and to restore the affected areas

During his visit to Otor JSC, Aleksandr Lukashenko plans to get acquainted with the technological process of sowing corn for silage. At a local dairy farm, he will be informed on the technological process of milk production.

The President will also go to the Chechersk Central District Hospital to learn of its operation and equipment. Aleksandr Lukashenko plans to visit the medical facility’s X-ray and computed tomography rooms, haemodialysis and operating units, and paediatric department. The Head of State will be reported on the provision of medical assistance to people who reside on the Chernobyl-affected territories.

In addition, Aleksandr Lukashenko will lay flowers at the Memory of Displaced Villages memorial.

After the Chernobyl accident, 3,950 families have been resettled from the area, while 12,143 hectares of farmland have been withdrawn from circulation. 1,500 hectares of forest have been decommissioned. The population in the district has decreased from 30,000 (in 1986) to 14,500 in early 2022.
