Lukashenko urged to strengthen CIS economic foundation
Despite pressure from Western sanctions, positive economic growth rates continue in the CIS — as stated by President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko during today’s CIS Heads of State Council meeting, held in a narrow format in Dushanbe
The Head of State pointed out that many, if not all, contemporary conflicts stem from economic factors and competition, “To succeed in this struggle, ensure sustainable development and enhance the well-being of all our countries, it is essential to strengthen the economic foundation and deepen co-operation in trade, investment and industry. Despite intense sanctions from the West, efforts to drive a wedge between us and threats of secondary sanctions, the CIS has continued to experience positive economic growth this year.”
In particular, from January to July 2025, the GDP of the CIS member states grew by 2.2 percent. At the same time, the Belarusian leader also highlighted the need to bolster the CIS economic resilience. On September 29th, an action plan for implementing the CIS economic development strategy through 2030 was approved in Minsk.
