Lukashenko to local officials: act more decisively

Today, President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko addressed personnel matters, notably, confirmed the appointment of a number of heads of local executive bodies

In his speech to the officials, Aleksandr Lukashenko first of all expressed his gratitude for accepting such responsible positions at this difficult time, “These are serious times. We have just had talks with representatives of the Chinese authorities. I appreciate that the Chinese are treating us with respect. The high-level delegation from China [arrived] today. This is an empire and the fact that such a high-level delegation has come to Belarus means they are interested in relations with us. Many decades, not just years, of our work with the Chinese are behind this. This is a very impressive, wise and serious nation that doesn’t do anything without a reason. And before acting, they make sure they can work with us. I mentioned this for you to realise that you are at the heart of all this. You are face-to-face with the Belarusian people, with our workers, especially in agriculture, and you create this foundation for my contacts and negotiations at the highest level. So, everything starts with you.”

According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, the chairmen of district executive committees are figures who are in the centre of attention, especially now, “It not only in terms of urban redevelopment and so on. I am sure you will handle it. In this regard, we will urge you and demand from you quite seriously that the Years of Quality and Improvement are noticed — first of all by our people. Treating this as mere formality is absolutely unacceptable.”

The President is confident that district officials responsible for industrial and agricultural development in their regions will take significant steps to address challenges in these sectors. The Head of State emphasised that during his recent work-related visits to the Vitebsk and Mogilev regions he shared and discussed best practices for developing agro-towns, small towns and districts in general, “You have to act. Act more decisively. Bring your territories to proper standards. Do not let the people down.”

Aleksandr Lukashenko further added that the people should also be involved in community labour, “Don't forget that we are living in the Year of Improvement — this is our health and the health of our children. The improvement means the enhancement and preservation of what Belarus has.”
