Lukashenko: there has never been easy election campaign in Belarus’ history and isn’t expected
President Aleksandr Lukashenko stated during his annual Address to the Belarusian People and the National Assembly that there has never been an easy election campaign in Belarus’ history and is not expected as long as it exists as a sovereign state. According to the Belarusian leader, already today, without waiting for the electoral campaign, it is necessary to discuss with people what issues will be brought to the level of the first constitutional composition of the Belarusian People’s Congress.
“We need to start discussing the draft of a new National Security Concept in the manner we did with the draft Constitution,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed. “It sounds very acute at the moment. People need to be explained everything. In general, the dialogue with people – started on the eve of the nationwide constitutional referendum – should be continued locally, in student audiences, at factories and organisations. It’s not the time to stop. Do not think that we have explained everything to everyone.”
As the President noted, every new day throws up a new informational occasion, therefore, it is especially necessary to work with the youth very scrupulously: to explain and consult.
“We must remember that there has never been an easy election campaign in our history and never will be,” Aleksandr Lukashenko addressed the audience. “It will not be as long as we exist as a sovereign state. I think you understand this. Therefore, national unity is the first condition for maintaining sovereignty and independence. It’s stormy all around.. Only our island of peace remains. Do you think anyone will agree with this? Nobody, nowhere and never. There will be different methods, as I say, not just to stagger but to destroy us. Nobody needs this island of peacefulness, this ‘a bad example’.”
