Lukashenko: ten attempts to commit terrorist attacks in Belarus made

Answering Turkish TRT journalist Nisa Efendioglu’s question on why the West is putting pressure on Belarus and whether the United States is responsible for the refugee crisis on the border, Aleksandr Lukashenko said that ten attempts have been made by fugitives to commit terrorist attacks in Belarus over this year

“You asked the right question,” the President of Belarus stressed. “The root causes for this pressure are connected with the United States of America.”

Aleksandr Lukashenko added that he would not list all the reasons but outlined the key, “The main reason is that we have become the main link for the US and NATO pressure on Russia. You know what was happening in our country last year: there were attempts to transform Belarus into Ukraine here (as they demand from us today). When we ask them of their goals, they say – this is a quotation, “We want Belarus to be like Ukraine." I replied to these words: we do not want to be Ukraine. Our people do not want this and never will.”

The President reminded of last year’s attempts to transform ‘our country through the so-called colour revolution and rebellion into Ukraine’, “They failed. Why do they need to turn Belarus into Ukraine? To complete the Baltic-Black Sea region of which they have been dreaming for a long time, and to create this block with a border in the east, near Smolensk, for further pressure and – to put it bluntly – advance into Russia.”

Addressing the journalist, the Head of State noted that Turkey also lived through such period in the past, “You also experienced this in times of Erdogan. There was an attempted mutiny in Turkey. It was somewhat different with us, but it was a mutiny in Turkey and it was a mutiny here – this cannot be called differently. They failed to break the country by force, through a one-move attack – so they [opponents] turned to gradual pressure, switching to hybrid warfare.”

Aleksandr Lukashenko explained, “Pressure and attacks on Belarus in different directions continue, with different intensity. This is expressed in pressure through the media, through diplomatic channels and a political line. They have now turned to severe pressure in economic areas. Americans and Europeans have imposed five packages of sanctions against Belarus.”

The President also added that ten attempts to commit terrorist attacks have made against people, enterprises and military facilities over a year ‘by our fugitives who are now under the protection of Poland, Lithuania and Ukraine’.

“Do I understand you correctly? You think that the US and its allies are the countries that should be responsible for the crisis on the border, aren’t you?” Ms. Efendioglu clarified.

“Absolutely. You know that better than I do – since you border the countries they destroyed,” the Head of State summed up.
