Lukashenko supports Trump’s efforts to resolve Middle East conflict

On October 14th, President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko convened a meeting at the Palace of Independence to discuss the global international situation and the development of Belarusian-US relations, inviting Prime Minister Aleksandr Turchin, Head of the Belarus President Administration Dmitry Krutoi, State Secretary of the Security Council Aleksandr Volfovich, Prosecutor General Andrei Shved and Chairman of the State Security Committee Ivan Tertel

First of all, the President highlighted the key topics for discussion, “Today, I would like to consult with you on several issues. First, we will talk about the global international situation — how it is characterised and what role Belarus plays within it. That is the first point. Secondly, our relationship with the United States is a very important issue. The rise to power of Donald Trump’s administration has caused international relations to change rapidly. Despite all the shortcomings, we must acknowledge that Donald Trump is taking decisive actions on the global stage to address major issues. The recent event in the Middle East [referring to the signing of a final ceasefire agreement for the Gaza Strip by the leaders of Egypt, Qatar, the US and Turkiye at the ‘peace summit’ in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt] — despite its imperfections and regardless of criticism from some opponents and political analysts, represents a significant and serious step that has brought an end to the conflict and hostilities. I must give credit where it is due.”

The Head of State emphasised that, of course, much remains to be done since efforts to achieve peace in this region have been ongoing for decades.

“They have accomplished nothing. Therefore, I fully support the steps taken by the President of the United States, Donald Trump, to restore order in the Middle East in this situation. This is a decisive and positive step that could lead to the establishment of a state, possibly a unified Palestinian state that includes the Gaza Strip, allowing people to finally live there peacefully. This is just one aspect, but there are several other issues that can be addressed,” Aleksandr Lukashenko pointed out.
