The President highlighted that this year, commemorative events marking the 80th anniversary of the Victory over fascism were successfully held, including the introduction of the honorary CIS title: City of Labour Glory, 1941-1945. In Belarus, this distinction is currently proudly held by the cities of Baranovichi and Orsha.

The Belarusian leader also reminded that 2026 will mark the 40th anniversary of one of the largest manmade disasters in history: the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident.

“Today’s statement within the CIS focuses on this topic, as well as the resolution on Chernobyl presented at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly,” the Head of State noted.

Aleksandr Lukashenko further expressed Belarus’ strong appreciation for Tajikistan’s chairmanship of the CIS bodies in 2025. He once again thanked Tajik President Emomali Rahmon for his hospitality and praised the CIS Executive Committee for the excellent preparation of the current events.

The Head of State also congratulated Serdar Berdimuhamedov on Turkmenistan assuming the CIS presidency next year.
