Lukashenko said Lithuanian authorities destroyed their country
The Lithuanian authorities have destroyed their country – as noted by President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko on January 26th, BelTA reports
“There is no Lithuania. They have destroyed a beautiful country with hardworking and patient people. It reached such heights in Soviet times – ‘under occupation’, as they say. I’ve been to Lithuania. People were queuing to buy machinery and food from Lithuania. We dreamed of living the way the Baltic republics lived,” Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasised.
As noted by the Head of State, living ‘in democracy’ today, Lithuania has lost a large part of its population.
“They have no people left. Ukraine has also taken a sip of ‘democracy’,” the President added.
According to him, Belarusians sometimes wonder why Lithuania closes its borders, pursues a terrible policy against Belarus and closes its ports to Belarusian cargo.
“We are patient about it. We have introduced visa-free travel for Lithuanians and Latvian and opened borders, while they scare their people that we will recruit them here. God be with you! We have enough Lithuanians recruited; we don’t need to recruit anyone. But they continue to say that Lithuanians will be recruited here and so on. Such nonsense!” the Belarusian leader pointed out.
Aleksandr Lukashenko said that, while still a deputy, he travelled to Lithuania to support its leadership, and wrote letters to Gorbachev, urging him to pursue a softer policy towards Lithuania.
“I did everything to preserve the Soviet Union, but I did not want Lithuanians to die,” the Head of State said.
“Here they have destroyed their country. What can be said about Lithuania today... If the European Union and Brussels point a finger at it, it will do it, because they are sitting on Brussels’ money. And God forbid Americans say something – they are eager to carry out their instructions. The worst is yet to come for Europe,” the President added.
