When asked what the year 2023 will be like, the President said, “[It will be] the happiest, the most successful. Do not worry, it will be fine."

The President was also asked about his mood before the summit. "So-so,” he replied. Aleksandr Lukashenko explained that the mood is getting better as the New Year is approaching, “It cannot be better, but it will be the best on the New Year's Eve."

The state leaders have gathered at the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library, in the centre of St. Petersburg. The meeting is hosted by a historic Synod building on Senate Square, which is quite often used for summits of the kind.

The New Year's Eve informal meetings of the heads of state have already become a good tradition. Russian President Vladimir Putin invited his colleagues to gather in St. Petersburg at the end of the year, during the Eurasian Economic Union summit in Bishkek on December 9th.
