Lukashenko: Poles refused to hold talks on Pochobut
The Polish side refused to talk about Andrei Pochobut who is in prison in Belarus – as noted by President Aleksandr Lukashenko during his today’s meeting with the MotoVeloZavod and Minsk City Technopark employees
Answering a question from journalists about why Poles have become more active in the light of the Belarusian elections, including on the issue of convicted Andrei Pochobut, the Head of State stressed, “As for Pochobut, there's nothing to say. I tell you sincerely, as a person who has information: they have turned tail upon Pochbut, Poles have refused to even talk about him. As far as I am being reported, Pochobut does not want to go there, and that’s the issue.”
Aleksandr Lukashenko reminded that Andrei Pochobut is a Belarusian citizen, he violated the law and was held responsible for the crimes committed, “We will think of what to do next. Believe me, Pochobut is not the paramount issue, we will solve all the problems independently.”
In February 2023, Andrei Pochobut was sentenced to eight years in prison to be served in a high-security penal colony for publicly calling for actions aimed at harming the national security of the Republic of Belarus, distributing materials containing such calls using the media and the Internet, as well as for deliberate actions to incite national, religious and other social hostility and to arouse discord on the grounds of national, religious and other social affiliation, committed by a group of persons.
